Visiting Saint-Malo Part 2
When we left St-Malo last Summer, I didn’t think I’d be back less than a year later! Life is full of beautiful surprises!
I made my way back to this very special place, at the occasion of a French wedding that took place in Le Mans last month and St-Malo was too close not to go!
This time around, I went with my Mum and her girlfriends and we had a car, which meant more flexibility and farther reach! That’s why in this post, I will talk about St-Malo and about what to do outside of town as well.
So first St-Malo itself.
This time around, no camping! We rented a great house in a great quarter with the agency Cocoonr.
We discovered Les Thermes de Saint-Malo, a beautiful place overlooking the Ocean. We only had half a day there, which gives you time to do le parcours Aquatonic - if you like warm water & bubbles - and a treatment at the Spa. I chose a face treatment because I rarely do that and it was divine! Later that day, we had dinner at one of their restaurant Le Cap Horn where you can see the beautiful sunset and the food is fantastic!
I went again to La Maison du Sarrasin for dessert. I recommend their white chocolate/ matcha Crepe <3
More discoveries in town:
Couleur Café, for their perfect location and original drinks (like CBD coffee)
The Restaurant l’Absinthe for a nice dinner Intramurros
The boho café/shop Cook’in Café by Angèle for their healthy options
The hairdresser La Coiffeuse <3
Discoveries outside of town:
Le Mont Saint-Michel of course! It’s a 45 min drive from Saint-Malo and we drove via Cancale to see the beautiful coastal village. The advice of the Tourism Info was: go either early morning or late afternoon. We went around 3pm and stopped at an Armor Lux shop on the way cause I had to get another sailor top of course! I feel like that’s a trend that’s never going out of fashion plus I’m a Frenchy living in Switzerland so I love wearing that for the sake of looking like a cliché.
If you want to visit the Abbaye, check out the opening hours beforehand. You can leave your car on a parking lot the whole day which will cost you 15€ and then you can take a free shuttle bus to get to the Mont. You could also walk on the bridge or take a guide and walk on the sand when it’s low tide. We chose the lazy option.
Dinard by Taxi-boat from Saint-Malo. I always love taking a boat to go somewhere so this was a no brainer. It’s a very short ride that takes you from city center to city center. Dinard has a very nice coastal walk. For lunch we stopped at Crêperie du Roy which was delish!
Dinan > Le Cap Fréhel > Le Fort la Latte
In Dinan, we did the typical Medieval Town tourist tour. We parked on the Market Parking lot and headed to La Tour de l’Horlogerie. I went all the way up to have a great view of the village and was not disappointed! Then we headed to the Harbor (le port) via Jerzual street, where we had an amazing lunch at Luun. This was one of the golden nugget of the trip in terms of restaurants, even though there were soooo many great ones, cause France! Then we headed to the Lighthouse at Cap Fréhel. Unfortunately it was already closed when we got there so we couldn’t go up but the scenery was still worth it! Same thing for Fort la Latte, already closed, still worth seeing it! The way back to Saint-Malo is quite scenic especially around the tiny village called Le Guildo, its little harbor and castle in ruin <3
Enjoy the ride but also beware of opening hours if you want to enter old buildings and get an even better view of the Ocean ;)
Here is a link to the short post I wrote last year Saint-Malo Part 1.
I’m hoping to be able to write Part 3 next year!
As always let me know if you have questions.
On the self-help side of things, I realized that all the things I got triggered by, I actually do them myself too to a certain degree! And that those things are most of the time driven by fear. One of the key element here would be to invite more ‘TRUST’ to release the fear, which is also linked to the next realization: living a life where you do the same things every single day (because of the fear of change) doesn’t make you able to problem solve or adapt to new situations very easily. So for this one - combined with inviting TRUST - I promised myself to always keep learning and always keep pushing myself out of my comfort zone. This year I will do that by learning Free-diving next week in Greece and swimming with Whales in Tahiti in September.
Are you learning something new this year?
Can you invite more TRUST into your life?
Enjoy your Summer!
