Conversations and hidden Resistance

I was talking to one of my colleagues the other day and since it’s the beginning of the year, I asked her if she wanted to do things differently work-wise this year or if she wanted to keep doing what she was already doing.

She said she will apply to a few jobs that she studied for and used to do before she went on self-employed & side jobs mode. Of course because I love to ask questions, I asked her about what she had done so far, why she was doing what she was currently doing and why she didn’t re-apply for the job she studied to do sooner. To that last question, she replied: ‘because I feel like that if I go for it and it doesn’t work out then I cannot have that as a back up plan anymore’.

Mmmh that made sense! I could definitely relate to that kind of Resistance in the moment but even more so when I went to bed later that day and turned off the light, because I suddenly realised that I was doing the exact same thing with my writing! I was/ am postponing working on it and putting it out there because if it sucks or if I can’t do it, then I can’t dream about it anymore!

Wow! I wasn’t aware that block was even there! That’s why I love conversations because we learn so much about ourselves when both parties decide to be vulnerable and share openly <3

So much of our resistance is deeply buried in our sub-conscious and that’s why we need to pay attention when something like that shows up on a silver plater for us to have a look at.

At first when I noticed the block was there, I thought, oh no! What am I going to do?! But then I remembered I’m a hypnotherapist specialised in creative blocks! Yes sometimes I forget I have the tools to change!

Side note: sometimes just realising that a block is there can be enough to alchemise it but this one definitely needed a session.

My intention for the session was to alchemise that limiting belief to be able to put my writing out there more or even at all.

- so one self-hypno-sesh later -

Once again I was amazed by the things that came up! And to be honest, I was even bored at the beginning of it, I almost took a bath instead! But I sticked to it! Some emotions came up, some realisations as well AND the best part is that as soon as I was done I had to reach out for a pen and paper to write down the beginning of an outline for the book I’m currently working on which was not even my intention! So if you still wonder if hypnotherapy works, here is a great example of unlocking a creating block! And so is this post because I didn’t release a proper one since Summer last year!

My questions for you today:

Are you going to keep doing what you are currently doing professionally/creatively or do you feel like changing direction this year? And if you chose the latter, is there something stopping you from going for it?

If you have an idea that you’d like to explore in a group setting and on a subconscious level, I’m hosting an ‘Idea Party & Hypnotherapy’ workshop at The Looking Glass Basel February 9th, 13:30-15:30.

And if you’d rather work on the Resistance 1:1, you can find more info here.
